STOP UNWARRANTED ATTACKS ON FORMER PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA

It is wrong and primitive for the Akufo-Addo administration and its hired attackers to cast aspersion on the former President Mahama and ministers who worked under him, deliberately discrediting the monumental achievements and innovative policies they adopted to develop our great nation. The ill- intentioned vilification of the former President is primitive and dangerous for our teething democracy. Progressives and discerning Ghanaians including some level headed members of the ruling NPP, have watched with increasing alarm and concern the concerted effort by the Akufo-Addo administration and some members of the Npp to attack, ridicule and undermine and impugn the integrity of the former President. The Akufo-Addo administration is prosecuting a plot to destroy the family of the former President. The President, his Vice and his appointees have started spreading barefaced falsehoods and propaganda against the former President in the name of investigations. For ten (10) the President and his government using some state institutions, have beamed their searchlight on the former first family and his siblings. It began with the former President Mahama’s residence issue. President Akufo-Addo in collaboration with his media cabal and hoodlums in his party, placed drones on top of the former President’s residence to monitor his movement and to embarrass him. He [Mr Mahama], vacated the place and rented his current place to protect his family from further harassment by the Akufo-Addo administration. Special forces made up of some security personnel and members of his vigilante groups were positioned around his residence and attempts were made by these hoodlums to have access to his residence. In a method that clearly bears out the axiom of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it, the Akufo-Addo administration linked former President Mahama to all kinds of fake possessions and properties around the country including the “famous” Bole Cocoa Research Institute’s facility. The most astonishing development is that, close relatives of the former President who acquired their properties through hard work and legitimate means are being victimised and their personal properties are being investigated.

Akufo-Addo and his attackers began their attack and propaganda against the former President and his family in opposition. The current First Deputy Speaker Mr Osei Wusu openly lied that the former first lady was constructing a personal warehouse inside the flagstaff. An allegation he is yet to prove but was rewarded with the position he currently occupies. Akufo -Addo, the man and his attackers accused the former President of owning houses and several plots of land across the world including places the former President never visited. They accused his ministers of owning fuel stations and with the support of their cabal in the media, printed fake fuel stations and linked them to these innocent ministers. They are yet to show Ghanaians where these fuel stations are situated.

It is wrong for Akufo-Addo and his party to portray each and every member of the Mahama administration as corrupt and irresponsible. The former President and his appointees served Ghana diligently and to the best of their ability. The results of their hardwork dedication and sweat is what the Akufo Addo administration and their family members and friends are enjoying today. The former President should be applauded than being vilified. The Npp is now in charge of the flagstaff house so can within seconds furnish the public with information about the warehouse they said the former first lady was constructing inside the “big house”. And nobody is demanding for such reports, people are not demanding for reports on the fuel stations they said the former appointees own, people are not demanding for names of siblings and family members of the former President Prof Adei and others alleged have been appointed into Mahama’s administration, people are not demanding for full facts about the houses and hotels Akufo-Addo and his friends said the former President owns.

When he was in office, so many ugly incidents happened all orchestrated by the Npp but usual of him, he calmly placed them in the dustbin for sanity to prevail. I was not a bit surprised when I saw him and Pastor Owusu Bempah, Obimpeh and others take that memorable picture. That is the man Mahama for you, always affable, down to earth with huge forgiving heart.
