STATEMENT OF THE NDC – WESTERN REGION ON THE BARBARIC ATTACK ON THE AOWIN CONSTITUENCY SECRETARY BY NPP VIGILANTE GROUP IN SANKORE.

The leadership of the NDC in the Western Region has been informed of another beastly act of an NPP vigilante group in Sankore in the Brong Ahafo region on Mr Maxwell Adjei, the Aowin constituency secretary in the Western region.

This unprovoked and barbaric attack happened when the victim who had travelled home to see the family in Bomaa a town in the Brong Ahafo region was returning to Sefwi Wiawso on the morning of Wednesday, 27th December, 2017 for a party meeting.
On reaching Sankore, a group of young men on motorbikes who identified themselves as NPP members accosted him and demanded to know why he had NDC party flag in his car and a sticker on the windscreen.

Without any provocation, the group went on rampage destroying the flag and sticker, and ransacking the vehicle. In the melee, his money was picked leaving him horrified and distraught. Some onlookers who came to his rescue advised him to move on to avoid further humiliation.

He proceeded to the nearest police post to report the incident and the immediate reaction of the officers present was that his was not the first of such attacks because the MP for the constituency was recently been brutally attacked by NPP vigilante group in Sankore.

Question is, when is this madness going to stop, and has it become a crime to be associated with the NDC and proudly display same publicly?

It is obvious that the police and some allied state institutions have failed to prevent and punish perpetrators of such attacks and judging from the reaction of the police in this instance, it is anybody’s guess that this incident will go the way other attacks have handled, not forgetting the attack of a Police Officer at the Flagstaff House.

As a responsible political party, we will still call on the President and the leadership of the NPP to call their rampaging youth across the country to order because these unwarranted attacks are pushing our youth to the edge.

We wish to also put on record that the NPP is sowing a very dangerous seed and that harvest time shall surely come however long it takes if they don’t halt it.

The Region sympathies with our comrade and urge all party members to be on guard against these attacks.

……Signed……
Joseph Nelson
Regional Secretary
Western Region
