Spio-Garbrah salutes Rawlings on 25th anniversary of Ndc

Twenty-five years ago today, a party belonging to the social democratic political tradition, the great National Democratic Congress(NDC) was given birth to, founded on the ideals of probity, accountability and integrity in governance and public life.

Within these 25years, the NDC has grown from strength to strength to become the leading political party in Ghana, having won the very first general elections in the Fourth Republic in 1992.
Since then, our political tradition has dominated the multiparty political scene in Ghana by winning three more general elections in 1996, 2008 and 2012.

Today, as we celebrate a quarter of a century of our existence in the political space in Ghana, may I take this opportunity to pay glorious homage and tribute to the founding fathers of our party, particularly our Founder, Flt-Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, the first President of the Fourth Republic on whose vision and ideals of probity, accountability and integrity the NDC was founded.

I will also like to recognize the great contributions made by former President John Evans Atta Mills and former President John Dramani Mahama and their governments to the achievements of the NDC.

Further thanks and appreciation go to all former ministers, ambassadors, CEOs, Board Chairmen, Members of Parliament both past and present, and other appointees for the various roles they played in government and out of government.

I wish to extend heartfelt felicitations to all party executives at all levels from national through regional and constituency to branches who have offered leadership through thick and thin these many years. I wish to congratulate you all for the sacrifices you have made to our great party which have enabled us to be the formidable political force that we are in Ghana today.

My sincere appreciation also goes to all members and sympathisers of the great NDC and indeed the Ghanaian voting public, without whom the party would not have achieved the great feats it has chalked so far in the Ghanaian political arena. Many thanks for believing in the NDC.

Looking to the future, there is no doubt that there are arduous struggles ahead to bring the NDC once again into the leadership of Ghana.

The most immediate task confronting us and on which the future well-being of our party depends, is the reorganization of our party towards the 2020 general elections. In this regard, the report of the Prof. Kwesi Botchway’s Committee would be very crucial.

There is no doubt that Ghanaians of all walks of life are eagerly looking up to the NDC to quickly put its house in order so as to play its crucial role in our politics. If the early signs of the rule of our opponents are anything to go by, one can confidently say that the NDC has a job to do in rescuing Ghanaians from the shackles of poverty and degradation into which the lies and deception of our opponents are foistering on a large segment of our people.

We cannot continue to boast of Ghana being the first country south of the Sahara to gain independence and yet underdevelopment and neo-colonialism continue to be our partners. Economic emancipation and transformational leadership is a sine qua non to our political and socio-economic development. I entreat all our party members to stand up to this challenge.

Happy 25th Anniversary, NDC!!

God bless the NDC!!
God bless Mother Ghana!!
God bless us all!!

Thank you.
