A UK based Ghanaian lecturer, Dr Sharif Mahmud Khalid has quizzed a cousin of the president, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and the ruling New Patriotic Party whether it is right for the incumbent Vice-president, Dr Mahmoud Bawumia to chill in London at the expense of taxpayers but wrong for Ex-President John Dramani Mahama to go for holidays in Dubai.
Dr Khalid’s questions follow a Facebook post by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a self-appointed spokesperson for the Veep on 25th January, 2018 stating that the Vice-president is resting in a ‘small flat’ in London after several contradicting accounts on his health status.
Ghanaians have expressed mixed feelings about the unwarranted post and expressing disappointment in the government for the communication lapse.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has urged the public to ignore Gabby Otchere-Darko’s post because his statements do not reflect the position of government.
Dr Khalid seem to be baffled by the hypocrisy of the New Patriotic Party because of the hullabaloo that characterized the rumor that then President John Mahama was enjoying in the United Arab Emirates during holidays.
