Secretary-General announces President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana as co-chair of Sustainable Development Goals Advocates

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today announced that His Excellency Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, will serve as co-chair of the Secretary-General’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocates. He will be co-chair of the group along with Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway until the end of 2018.

President Akufo-Addo succeeds His Excellency Mr. John Mahama of Ghana, who completed his assignment at the end of December, and to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his co-leadership of the group and his engagement and commitment to promoting the SDGs.

As co-chair, President Akufo-Addo will work with his fellow Advocates to promote the SDGs as part of an ambitious and transformative global development agenda. In particular, the SDG Advocates promote the universal character of the SDGs, including their commitment to leave no one behind; to promote the engagement of new stakeholders in the implementation and financing of the SDGs; to encourage partnerships with governments, civil society and the private sector to share knowledge and resources; and to raise awareness for the integrated nature of the SDGs.
