Rev Martey ‘can now wear NPP jersey’ – General Mosquito

The General Secretary of governing NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is asking the outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey to go public with his affiliation with the opposition NPP.

“He can now wear his NPP jersey now that he is leaving office,” he told Rev. Martey who has been vocal against certain policies of the government.

“He can wear the NPP shirt and walk around, and possibly, the NPP can choose him as the running mate or the flagbearer…that will help him instead of hiding behind the Presbyterian Church to make unguarded comments”, the NDC scribe, who is affectionately called General Mosquito, told Onua FM’s Yen Sempa on Wednesday.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia was reacting to claims by Prof. Emmanuel Martey that there is corruption in government. “If he wears the NPP jersey openly, we can then attack him when he make political comments but if he wants to be neutral, then he should not talk about political issues”, Asiedu Nketiah added.

He conceded that the moderator is a citizen of Ghana and has the right to join any political party and also express his views on any national issues, but “his views should be differentiated from that of the Presby Church because not all members are towing his line”. “As the moderator represents God so some of the things you say must be seen as coming from God or from the church but I don’t think God ask him to come and say some of the things he has been saying in the country”, General Mosquito observed.

APOLOGY ACCEPTED Mr. Asiedu Nketia accepted the apology from former Public Relations Officer of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Dr Emmanuel Osei Akyeampong who claimed his attack on the former was influenced. “I remember the insults and I knew he was not speaking as a person. I knew the moderator asked him to do so and as a presbyter myself, I have forgiven him long time”. He added that “already, I do not hold any beef against him and even the moderator”.
