Presidential nominees vetting themselves is unacceptable – Kwesi Pratt

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has called on parliament to pay serious attention to the way presidential nominees are vetted over the years.

He believes some practices over the years during the vetting of presidential nominees have reduced the credibility of the process.

“However certain practices over the years suggest a bastardization of the process and I think it’s important we look at these practices carefully”, he stated on Radio Gold’s ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ on Saturday.

According to Mr Pratt Jnr, maintaining presidential nominees on the vetting committee of parliament makes the process unacceptable.

“It has happened over the years since 1993 and I can’t imagine the rationale for maintaining a system of vetting in which nominees sit on their own vetting committee and vet themselves and this is really incredible and unacceptable”, he pointed out.

He suggested that “nominees should not be part of the vetting committee and it does not matter which political party is in power.”
