President Mahama Back Home From Nairobi, Kenya

President John Dramani Mahama returned home on Monday from Nairobi, Kenya, where he attended the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

The just ended Nairobi Summit, which is the first TICAD in Africa, focused on the expansion of Japanese investment in Africa to help with its developmental agenda.

At the end of the Summit, the leaders agreed with Japan to among others “take measures to enhance the role of the private sector in development, including through increased private investment, entrepreneurship, business reform, public-private partnership and financing.”

Japan on its part announced that it will in response shift towards more foreign direct investment rather than aid, promising that its private sector will invest about $30 billion in Africa.
