President Mahama Announces Upward Review Of Student Loan Rate

President John Dramani Mahama, has announced an upward review in the rate of the student loan scheme.

He said this was arrived at after a meeting by the Students loan Trust Fund.

The President dropped the hint when he interacted with students of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho as part of his Campaign tour of the Volta region.

Meanwhile, President Mahama, has promised victims of the communal violence that broke out in Hohoe of the payment of compensation soon.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences was a brain child of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

In November 2012, the University was formally inaugurated by Vice President Kwesi Amissah – Arthur.

As a young University it still has some teething problems like staff accommodation, hostels and bad roads.

President Mahama, said government will continue to work to make the University a centre of excellence while assuring them of the provision of hostels in his second term.

President Mahama, dropped the hint which sent waves of excitement within the hall. It was news of an increase in the students’ loan rate.

The student loan will now range between a thousand Ghana Cedis to two thousand Ghana Cedis.

The President also announced another new package which is the “Student Loan Plus”.

This is an initiative that will cushion students with admission letters but are unable to pay their admission fees.

Earlier, President Mahama, at a rally in Hohoe, assured victims of the communal violence that broke out between indigenes and some Zongo youth of compensation.

In 2012, indigenes of Hohoe and some Zongo youth clashed over issuance of burial rights that led to the vandalisation of property including the palace of the Paramount Chief of Gbi Togbega Gabusu

The President was warmly welcomed by the people of Hohoe and Anfoega where he addressed separate rallies.
