President instructs IGP to proceed on leave, Deputy IGP acts

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Monday asked the Inspector General of Police, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, to proceed on leave.

The directive takes immediate effect, pending Mr Asante-Apeatu’s retirement from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

A statement issued in Accra by the Presidency and signed by Mr Eugene Arhin, Communication Director at the Jubilee House, said the President thanked the IGP for “his many years of service to the country, and wished him well in his retirement.”

The statement said the President has asked the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, to act as IGP until a substantive IGP is appointed in accordance with the Constitution.
