Police officer shot dead

police officer has been shot dead while on patrol duty at Micheal Camp in the Greater Accra Region.

An eyewitness told Accra-based Joy FM that Const. Micheal Kporyi, riding a motorbike with registration number GP4350 with his AK47 rifle across the chest at about 9:30 pm.

Two armed men who were also riding on a motorbike followed him around the UBA filling station.

The two subsequently fired shots at the deceased after which they sped off. The Constable fell off and into a nearby gutter.

Later, some police officers who were also on duty at Tulaku Old Barrier checkpoint, called their colleagues at Tema to report the incident.
There were multiple gunshot wounds on the chest and eyebrow of the deceased when the body was inspected. One AK47 rifle, one pepper spray, a pair of handcuffs and a torch light were found with deceased.

The body has been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

This attack follows the lynching of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama in Denkyriaboase in the Central Region on May 29 and the also the shooting of Lance Corporal Robert Kumi Ackah by his fellow colleagues who mistook him for an armed robber.
