Oye Lithur’s Mother’s Day message

Mothers are the sweetest gift from God to us. There is no way we can ever really thank our mothers for all they do for us nonetheless we must make it a habit to keep reminding ourselves of the various sacrifices they make while raising us.

On behalf of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, I congratulate every woman on their resilience, fortitude and hard work. All women are dear to my heart and therefore I see this day as a very special day to give a standing ovation to all Ghanaian women across the country.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

The labour of the Ghanaian woman will certainly not be in vain. As a Ministry, we shall continue to do all within our power to create the enabling legal environment for all Ghanaian women.

The Ministry and its stakeholders are making headway through advocacy to change some cultural practices that infringe on the rights of women and children before the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill.

Our social protection programmes will continue to target women in extremely poor rural communities.
Research has shown that the local economies of the rural poor are being turned around by the injection of LEAP grants into those communities. We shall continue to expand that programme to reach more women so that their children and grandchildren can remain in school and receive good healthcare.

LEAP 1000 will take care of the extremely poor pregnant woman. Our agenda is that every woman should receive her joy in full on delivery and that their children will be in good health.

I want to assure you that there is hope for the Ghanaian woman living anywhere in this country.
I salute all women for their hard work and wish you a special happy mothers’ day.

God bless us all.
