Oye Lithur calls on Akufo-Addo to act over “unlawful violent” acts of vigilante groups

The Akufo-Addo administration has come under fresh pressure to deal decisively with vigilante groups such as the Invincible Forces and the Delta Force who are aligned to the New Patriotic Party.

On Saturday, the former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protect, Nana Oye Lithur,signed a letter calling on the president the and security agencies to do more to combat the attacks on innocent civilians since he won power four months ago.

The open letter condemns the forceful removal of appointed public officials and the destruction of government properties.
It expresses concern about numerous reports of extra judicial and unlawful violent acts by the Invincible Forces and the Delta Forces saying it has “dire national security implications.”

The strongly worded letter charged the president not to let “this violence to escalate, neither do we want this situation to degenerate.”

“I strongly urge our national security agencies to get a grip of this national security issue and solve this security problem,” the human rights lawyer said in her letter.
“This should be a top priority for Government. Protect our right to security, our right to human dignity and preserve the rule of law in Ghana. Freedom and Justice,” the letter added.
