NPP’s C.K Tedam dead

The long-standing Chairman of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Clement Kubindiwor Tedam, has passed on.

The sad incident occurred Friday morning in Accra.

He is said to have been receiving treatment at the Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra after being taken ill.

A proud son of Paga in the Upper East Region, C.K Tedam, as he was affectionately called, is a founder member of the Northern People’s Party (NPP).

He first won elections into Parliament as an independent candidate in 1954.

He served as a Minister of Local Government in the first regime of the Supreme Military Council (SMC).

He was a founder member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was made the Chairman of the Council of Elders in 2008, a position he has held since then.

Despite changes made to the Council on Wednesday by the NPP, he was still maintained as the Chairman.

He is noted to have successfully ensured that the impasse between then party chairman Paul Afoko, a man from the same region as him, and then presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, was resolved; thereby not affecting the chances of the party in the 2016 elections.

He was also a member of the Council of State under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

His death was confirmed by the Upper East Region branch of the NPP.

Our Upper East Region correspondent Rabiu Mohammed Tanko says indigenes of Paga have already massed up at the palace to mourn the departure of their proud son.

CK Tedam was 93 years.
