Information reaching the Weekly Guide Newspaper indicates that a dormant account owned by the NPP which was in recent times illegally activated and operated by Freddie Blay and Abankwa Yeboah without the knowledge of the National Chairman, General Secretary and other members of the party’s steering committee has been depleted of all its funds.
According to our source at the NPP Treasurer’s office who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the party cannot boast of a Ghc100.00 from the said account.
‘Every cheque the party has issued from that account to pay for certain services rendered to the party has been dishonoured by the bank for lack of cash in the account’, the source disclosed.
The source also added that, ‘almost all the expenditures made from this account cannot be accounted for’.
He stressed that, ‘over Ghc1million was said to have been spent on the Talensi bye-election within 2 weeks according to Freddie Blay, John Boadu and Abankwa Yeboah’.
However, in a sharp rebuttal , the Parliamentary Candidate for the Talensi bye-election has denied the claim. He argued that, he did not witness any such spending. This he mentioned to some of his close associates.
Another startling revelation according to our source, and the ECOBANK bank statement cited by this newspaper, an amount of Ghc88,000.00 was transferred to the National Nasara Coordinator, Kamaldeen as payments to some vigilante groups. This is another illegal and unaccountable payment into a private account.
According to portions of the ad hoc committee report that was set up by the party’s NEC to investigate what was known as the ‘NPP ECOBANK SCANDAL”, which has been intercepted by this newspaper, a whooping amount of Ghc5,054,000.00 which was about 70% of the funds realised from the party’s parliamentary primaries was diverted and lodged into this account by Freddie Blay, Abankwa Yeboah and with the full knowledge of the Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo.
The NPP committee report states that, ‘the Treasurer conceded and informed the meeting that the account is being operated by him and the current 1st Vice Chairman. Mr. Freddie Blay. Members were dismay’ed by this action of the Treasurer since his action was without the knowledge of the Finance Committee or the National Chairman or the General Secretary . The National Treasurer heav’ily censured by all at the meeting. He was told that what he had done was wrong, unethical and bordered on criminality’
The source concluded that, ‘the NPP as a party is currently bleeding of cash to carry out it’s operations and campaign activities. The party as it stands is broke with barely 7 months to the general elections. This not withstanding, the current party executives are misappropriating and fleecing the party of its scarce funds for their private benefits’.
