NPP bars MMDCEs, party executives from contesting sitting MPs

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has barred its national, regional, constituency and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembles Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from contesting sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) in next year’s parliamentary elections.
The party has further approved detailed rules and regulations to guide the conduct of presidential and parliamentary primaries which would be made available to the public in due course.

The decision to bar the party’s executives and MMDCEs from contesting their sitting MPs was contained in a statement dated April 3, 2023 and signed by the party’s General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

Below is the time table for the organisation of the party’s primaries:

1. Parliamentary Election.

Parliamentary Elections

24th February 2024

Forms cost: GHS3,000

Filing fees: GHS35,000

Development: GHS40,000

2. Presidential Nominations

Open 26/5/23

Closes on 24/6/23
