Nii Noi goes Independent: Good news for Nana Addo – Ephson

The decision by disgruntled member of the opposition New Patriotic Party to go independent in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Klottey Korle constituency will benefit the NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Pollster Ben Ephson has said.

“This is good news for Nana Addo and the NPP party as a whole. Akufo-Addo stands to benefit from Nii Noi’s decision- it would have been a big blow to Nana Addo if Nii Noi had not taken such a decision at all.”

He explained a sheer apathy by Nii Noi’s supporters could have threatened the chances of Nana Addo to make inroads in the Klottey Korle constituency during the November polls.

The defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey has declared that he will contest the upcoming November Parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

This comes after Lawyer Philip Addison secured victory in the re-run of the Klottey Korle Parliamentary polls conducted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He garnered 396 votes as against 367 by the former Constituency Chairman of the area, Nii Noi Nortey.

Nii Noi, at a press conference at Osu in Accra, on Wednesday stated that his decision was based on the fact that he has been unfairly treated by the party.

He won the first primary organized by the party on August 2, however, Counsel for the NPP in the 2012 Presidential petition case, Phillip Addison, who was a defeated aspirant, sued the NPP at the High Court, demanding annulment of the results.

An Accra High Court dismissed an application filed by the disputed Parliamentary Candidate, Nii Noi Nortey, which sought to set aside a default judgment thereby setting the pace for the opposition.
