New Regions: Minister in final meetings with Northern Chiefs

Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development, Dan Bowte is on his final lap of consultation with some paramount chiefs in the country aimed at paving the way for the creation of new regions as promised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr Dan Botwe who is currently in the Northern Region is billed to hold meetings with the Regional House of Chiefs in a follow up to individual meetings with them at their localities to seek their support for the project.

President Akufo Addo in January this year during his thank you tour, gave indications that four (4) new regions would be created beginning 2018 to bring the total number of regions in Ghana to fourteen (14)

“We’re talking about the Western North region which I committed myself to and the manifesto also committed itself to, the creation of the Ahafo region out of the Brong Ahafo, another express commitment on my part and backed by the manifesto, the northern region… Even on the thank you tour, that I took there a couple of weeks ago, there was an express demand that there should be a region created out of the eastern corridor by the Chiefs and people there, and then the Volta region where there has been a long standing demand for the creation of the Oti region.”He revealed.

Dan Botwe believes the creation of new regions in Ghana will enhance the economic opportunities as well as promote effective governance but pledged to closely work with chiefs and traditional authority to ensure the project was successful

According to him, the creation of new regions by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government was not for political advantage but help ensure even distribution of development across the country Dan Kwaku-Botwe

“The last stage of consultation process toward creating new regions is meeting the Northern Regional House of Chiefs”, he disclosed in an exclusive interview with mynewsgh.com.
