NDC supporters weep as Mahama cuts sod for the first Eastern University

Supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress at Somanya in the Eastern Region were spotted in flowing tears as President Mahama cuts sod for the commencement of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, which will be the only public university in the Eastern Region.

According to reports from Starr News, with the worrying defeat of the NDC in the just ended December polls in their minds, supporters were spotted weeping as the President Mahama began exchanging pleasantries with people at the ceremony grounds.

President Mahama during the 2012 electioneering campaign, promised citizens in the Eastern of a maiden public university in the region. According to President Mahama, the development is to ensure equality since every region, except the Eastern, boast of a public university.

President Mahama suffered a worrying defeat after he garnered just 44.40% of the total valid votes cast as against 53.85% of his main contender, Nana Akufo-Addo.
