NDC caused non-compliance to SIM re-registration – Ursula

2nd August 2022

Communication Minister, Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekufu has blamed the noncompliance with the SIM Card re-registration on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At a press engagement to extend the deadline of the ongoing exercise which was supposed to have ended on July, 31, the Minister bemoaned attempts by the opposition NDC to discourage its members and Ghanaians from availing themselves for the exercise.

“The NDC vociferously opposed the Ghana Card registration and called on all their supporters to boycott the process. Those who heeded that anti-social call and refused to register are now feeling the effect of it. You listen to the NDC at your own peril” the Minister said.

Several Ghanaisna feared losing their sim cards because of the July 31 deadline even though the Ghana Card which is the only form of identification was not made available to all mobile phone users.

However at a meet the press, on Sunday the Minister of Communication extended the deadline to September 30, a time culminating a year after the re-registration started.

This extension will provide mobile phone users with the opportunity to get their Ghana Cards and also re-register their sim cards.
