Former Gender and Social Protection Minister Hon. Nana Oye Lithur on Thursday made donations of some food stuffs and other cookies to the Muslims in the following communities Ashaiman, Nima, Kaneshie, Cowlane and Akoto Lante (British Accra) as part of her Ramadan donations (charity).

This kind gesture by the former Gender and Social Protection minister puts a lot of smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries especially as Ramadan has entered its last ten days. During this period Muslims observe *Itikaaf* ( an Islamic practice consisting of a period of staying in a mosque for a certain number of days, devoting oneself to ibadah during these days and staying away from worldly affairs) to seek for Allah’s protection from hell fire and for renewed faith moving forward.

Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) in occasions particularly during his sunnah sermons urged and encouraged the acts of charity [Quran 57:11].

He said: “Charity never decreases wealth. Rather, it increases it, it increases it, it increases it.”

If charity is given in Ramadan, then (its reward) is combined with the honour of time. It is known that righteous deeds in Ramadan are distinct from those performed in other months.

Therefore, the donation by Hon. Oye Lithur could not have come at a better time than now. The beneficiaries (Muslim men, women, aged etc) in appreciation of her kind charity prayed to Almighty Allah to bless her, grant her good health and to replenish whatever she has spent on the donations in many folds.

They also encouraged her to continue to touch the lives of many people even as a former minister, saying that it’s a mark of good leadership and kind heartedness.
