MTN Replies Anita Afriyie Over Music Theft

Telecommunication giant, MTN, has replied to a law suit filed against them by gospel musician, Anita Afriyie, over unlawful use of her intellectual property (music).

Management of the said artist, served MTN the writ of summons — which directed unequivocally that, MTN, has eight days to reply or face trial for civil tort.

In a reply (letter) from MTN to the artist, the Senior Manager — Commercial Legal Department,Mr.Pala Aseidu Ofori, stated (unedited),

“MTN relationship with Anita AFRIYIE dates back to the 19th March, 2015, when the artiste manager one Nana executed a contract on behalf of the artiste through a memorandum of understanding between Contagion Ghana and Anita for the artiste to perform at Dome of the Golden Bean hotel in Kumasi on the 5th April. ”

They made it clear that, the memorandum of understanding, gave MTN the exclusive right and permission to use Anita’s current biography, photos, and music for MTN’s media publications —- including, uploading her songs on MTN Play and Caller Ring Back Tones platform.

Reaching out to Anita Afriyie’s management, DANKAY Records, he shot down MTN’S claim —“We don’t even have anyone as Nana.

Nana is not a name! We will proceed to court over the matter” angry DANKAY told MustaphaInusah.Com.
