MPs are broke, pay our 2020 common fund arrears now – Nawani tells Akufo-Addo

Member of Parliament (MP) for Nabdam Mark Kurt Nawani has called on the government to release common funds for the last quarter of 2020.
According to him, MPs are in distress and need the monies to clear debt accrued as a result of projects undertaken in the latter part of 2020.
He indicated that governance is a continuous process and it’s imperative that even after election, projects are undertaken hence the need for government to pay the arrears.

“Usually when a new government comes, there is not supposed to be that much delay in paying the arrears. The arrears are usually paid within 2-3 months but now we are in the sixth month and I am talking about the common fund of 2020 not this year (2021).

The last quarter of 2020 has not yet been settled and so we are seriously handicapped because we even have debts to settle. Some boreholes were constructed and we need to settle them. Some other activities were also carried out. You know governance does not end with elections people expect that I should be working” he said in a report by Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM.

“The government owes a lot. There is a problem with their cash flow and I am hoping that they do well to overcome it as soon as possible to ensure the smooth running of the country,” he added expressing his worry over the debts owed by the government.
