The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament has chosen to boycott today’s parliamentary sitting to show support and solidarity for two members of the Caucus, namely the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.
The two members are scheduled to appear in court today, July 6, 2023, as they face ongoing prosecutions by the Attorney-General.
In a statement, the Minority expressed its unity with their colleagues and declared their inability to participate in the business of the house on this day.
The statement also served as a warning, indicating that this boycott marks the beginning of a series of actions that the Caucus intends to undertake to put an end to the perceived ongoing persecution of the Minority Leader, James Gyakye Quayson, and Collins Dauda.
Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minority Chief Whip, issued the statement, emphasising that in the midst of persecution, cooperation may suffer.
The decision to boycott the parliamentary sitting showcases the Caucus’s commitment to standing up for their members and addressing what they believe to be unjust treatment.
