Melcom launches online Virtual Market

Melcom, a supermarket chain consisting of over 38 shops spread all over Ghana has formally launched a virtual market, melcomonline.com.

The press launch which was held at the New Melcom Achimota Building, saw journalists given a tour of the new shopping centre and were also0 guided on how to navigate the website.

Melcomonline is a virtual market place that the company have created to expand selling points from ‘’our current 37 Melcom branches which in a matter of days will be increased to 38 nationwide when this edifice at Achimota officially opens for business, Godwin Avenorgbo, Director of Communications said.

According to him, due to the slow process of land and landed property acquisition to meet the size of land Melcom requires for business, it has become imperative that while efforts are being made to develop physical structures, we find a tried and tested way of achieving our vision of Melcom as the brand committed to delivering everything, everywhere, every time for every consumer in the most economical manner; hence Melcomonline-the Virtual Market,’’ he explained. He added,

‘’we have created Melcomonline as an enhancement of the Melcom Shopping convenience from any location in order to save time, travel and expense.’’ Customers are to register on melcomonline.com with a smart phone, computer or any other appropriate device. They will then select a displayed item from the catalogue with the help of the search feature bar. The customer then select a payment preference namely; Master card; Visa; Mobile Money and Cash on Delivery he explained. He stressed, ‘’if your prepared payment is cash then the item will be delivered to you at a location before you pay for it. A customer has the option to pick up the purchased item from the nearest Melcom Shop.’’

‘’We are happy to announce that Melcomonline provides a simple and secure gateway for payment through the e-commerce savvy of one of the leading banks in Ghana today, StanbicBank. As soon as payment is received, Melcom quickly dispatches merchandise to a preferred location for pick-up by the customer.

In connection with delivery at the customer’s preferred location, we are pleased to associate with Skynet Express, a company with many years of experience in safe, secure and fast delivery,’’ he announced. The Melcomonline platform enables purchases to be made at anytime from anywhere. However, payments according to Godwin Avenorgbo will be made on working days. Residents in the Greater Accra region will have the purchased goods delivered to them free of charge throughout Ghana’s Republic Anniversary month of July 2017. Melcom was started in 1989 by Indian magnate Bhagwan Khubchandani, who officially launched the online portal.
