Mahama swears in new auditor-general

President John Mahama on Friday swore in Daniel Domelovo as auditor-general.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony in Accra, Mahama said Domelovo would help to ensure probity, transparency, and accountability in government.
“I want to congratulate you and to state that by the powers vested in me as the President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 70 (b) of our constitution, I have appointed you as the Auditor General of Ghana.”

The president urged him to go about his work with the uttermost professionalism.

“The Audit Service exists to ensure good governance and, so, your responsibility, together with your team, is to deliver this to Ghanaians through the pursuit and application to the highest level of professionalism, accountability, probity and transparency in the public financial management system of Ghana,” he said.

Mahama’s “last minute” appointments, following his defeat to the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 7 election, has angered a section of the public.

He has, however, insisted that he remains president until January 7.

He has also stressed that the appointments are in the best interest of Ghana.
