Leaking gas from a fallen tanker causes fear and panic

Another gas explosion nearly rocked Ghanaians Tuesday dawn at Ofankor but this time, disaster was narrowly averted.

Following in the footsteps of the Atomic Junction blast, the Trade Fair blast and countless others, this one at least was not fatal, although still concerning that we aren’t learning from our issues with gas.

The incident reportedly occurred at Ofankor White House last night, near the Rev. John Teye Memorial School. A fallen gas tanker was leaking and led to people fleeing the area in droves.

A resident told Accra-based Joy FM that “People in the area fled to safety, I actually saw a fire tender headed for that direction when going home around 7 pm but I didn’t know what was happening.”

The fallen tanker also blocked traffic and led to more than usual congestion on the very busy road and it took the timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service to avert any disaster.
