LATEST NPP-PROPAGANDA DOCUMENT VINDICATES MAHAMA

All the military cooperation agreements between the United States Military and the Ghanaian government from 1998 were purposely for specific missions. The 2015 Agreement as we’ve been told, was a Mission Specific Agreement. The 2015 cooperation agreement was designed to increase the effectiveness of U.S and West African government entities and security forces in responding to Boko Haram threats in Nigeria and Cameroun.

President Mahama and Ghana led the United States-West Africa military cooperation deal because of the position our President and Ghana occupied at the Ecowas level at the time. Nana Akufo-Addo has committed Ghana to this agreement for what purpose. Can those supporting this dangerous agreement tell us why the Akufo-Addo-led administration hurriedly succumb to this agreement. What those defending this shameful and dangerous agreement do is,- they deliberately bury the issues about purpose for the various agreements, duration and components in the agreements.

President Mahama and his colleagues Heads of state in West Africa decision to enter into that cooperation arrangement was based on a decision taken by Ecowas heads of state and the AU with regard to combating Boko Haram operations in the Sub-region. It was not a unilateral decision. President Mahama had suggested a new force, possibly under the auspices of the AU to crush Boko Haram. Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau brushed off the threat- announced from his base that “a huge arsenal of weapons, apparently taken from a military base in Doron Baga had bolstered his group”. Abubakar referred Mahama as the King of African in his subsequent statement “The King of Africa is late. I challenge you to attack me even now. I’m ready” that was Abubakar. Chad President sent a contingent of troops to help Cameroun repel the threat and talked of capturing Baga. In Ghana, we heard rumours that some Boko Haram operatives had entered Ghana.

President Mahama who was the Chairman of Ecowas Heads of state had no option than to enter into cooperation arrangement with other nations to curb the escalation. The matter was extensively discussed at the Ecowas and AU levels. It was agreed that the United States troops will be used to train Nigerian soldiers on the frontline against Boko Haram. The US government decided to dispatch special forces to Nigeria via Ghana. In that cooperation arrangement, it was agreed that the American military will send advisors who will train Nigerian Army soldiers and instruct them right on the front lines in the north eastern part of Nigeria.

President Mahama during a visit to Germany, appealed to the Westen nations to support the operation against Boko Haram. Those struggling to jam all the agreements for mischievous purposes should read President Obama’s response to Mr Mahama’s appeal. And this was AU’S response to Mahama’s appeal through its head “I am touched by your concern over the Boko Haram issue in Nigeria and your decision to try and help Nigeria defeat the terrorists who have made life so impossible for the residents of North-East Nigeria. This concern has been eloquently articulated by your chairman, President John Mahama of Ghana, who has proposed that the AU should give Ecowas the authority to set up a multi national force to fight Boko Haram”

You see, let’s bury those fake documents and extend the discussions to why the various military cooperation arrangements and components captured in the various so called agreements. Narrowing the discussions to just agreements, airspace etc etc will not give Ghanaians the true picture of the inherent dangers in this 2018 permanent base agreement.

The United States-Ecowas- Ghana cooperation arrangement became necessary because of the challeges a combined team of Niger, Chad, Cameroun, Nigeria and Benin suffered over how to combat Boko Haram.

The question Ghanaians are asking the President and those releasing those documents is- Why this agreement at this time..We asking this harmless question because all United States Military operations in Africa are for particular missions

In Burkina Faso the United States Military base acts as a hub of a U.S spying network in the region, with spy planes departing from their base to fly over Mali, Mauritania and the Sahara, where they search for fighters from al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb

In Congo they assisted the nation in search for Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army

In Chad, they dispatched 80 troops to help with the search for Nigerian school girls kidnapped by Boko Haram.

Djibouti to fight terrorists

In Mali to provide liaison support to French and African troops

Somalia, for training and advising purposes

Uganda, in search for Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army.

None of these nations agreed to those wicked components inserted in the 2018 agreement between Ghana and the United States.

Use of territory and Airbase in a military cooperation agreement is nothing strange. Granting use of Airbase on permanent and exclusive bases is different from offering your Airbase for specific operation for a specific duration.

The wisdom in the Mahama arrangement is the decision to station their equipments etc inside the Burma Camp.

Thank God their latest document and propaganda theories have graciously vindicated Mahama and all progressives agitating against this sellout agreement.
