Drama unfolded on Wednesday, after the “Baamu Yadda” demonstrations by some affiliate groups of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi, as some Kayayes (head potters) hired to take part in the protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) to soar up the numbers, were left stranded by the organizers, who had failed to pay them the agreed amount.

The payment included transportation back home, after having abandoned their work for the day to take part in the demonstration meant to put pressure on the EC to replace the existing voters ‘ register with a new one ahead of November 7, 2016.

The demonstration, christened, “Baamu Yadda”, loosely translated in Hausa as, “we will not budge”.http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

At the Abbey’s Park, the converging point of the demonstrators, some head porters, commonly referred to as “Kayayes” were hired by one “Adiza Zongo Pioneer” a known NPP supporter to take part in the demonstration with the promise to pay them and foot their transportation bills back to where they were picked.

But after the various speakers delivered their hate speeches against President John Dramani Mahama, the EC, and its boss, Charlotte Osei, they just jumped into their luxurious cars, leaving the head porters unattended to.

This did not go down well with the “Kayayes” who felt totally dejected, as they were left stranded. This incurred their wrath, leading to invocation of curses on Adiza Zongo, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi and others, for deceiving them.

They were in the thick of the protest, displaying and beating their head pans in public, symbolizing how the government of President Mahama, has disappointed them. They were of Northern extraction.

The visibly peeved Kayayes, who spoke to our reporter in Kumasi, explained that, “Adiza Zongo” had asked them to desert their businesses for the day and join the demonstration.

They were to be given between Gh¢10 and Gh¢15 as transportation, depending on where one was picked from in the Kumasi Metropolis.

But to their surprise, they were left in the scotching sun, without even a cup of water to quench their dry throats, let alone the promised transport fares. Adiza Zongo, took the chunk of the curses for the deceit.

This is not the first time; Adiza Zongo’s name has popped up in a grand ploy by the NPP to paint a picture that even Kayayes are suffering under President Mahama.

It would be recalled that, somewhere in January this year, when the NPP, gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to beg people for money, it was revealed that, the porters never donated a colossal sum of Gh 5,000 to the NPP to support the party.

It later turned out to be false, because the said money was withdrawn from the coffers of the Ashanti regional branch of the party, to mislead people.

One of them, Halimatu Fuseini, speaking in Twi said “God will punish Adiza Zongo for deceiving us.”

Interestingly, although the protest was against the EC, almost all the placards displayed were anti-John Mahama.

Some of the placards read, ‘How can a northerner rule this country?’ ‘Vote Mahama Out’, ‘John Mu John’, ‘Ghana Abre’, ‘Propaganda Government’, ‘Eight Years is Enough’, ‘We Need A Credible Register’ , ‘Mahama Must Go’.

Others are ‘Where Is Peace Council’, ‘Ghanaians Are Suffering’, ‘Reject John Mahama,’ among others.
