Kufuor’s despatch rider collides with bicycle in Kumasi

A despatch rider leading the convoy of former President John Kufuor on Thursday collided with a bicycle rider on the Sofoline Interchange in Kumasi around 5pm.

President Kufuor and members in his entourage were safe.

Both riders got up and were taken to the hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Confirming the incident to Graphic Online, Mr Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson for the former President said his family members and some sympathisers were returning from the burial of his late brother when the accident occurred.

He said they were returning to Mr Kufuor’s Kumasi residence at Atasomanso, when the bicycle rider crossed the path of the police despatch rider.

Mr Agyekum said that both were not seriously injured but were taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to some eye witnesses, the bicycle rider, was a 58 year old man only named as Samuel.

Professor Emeritus Francis Addo Kufuor, formerly of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), passed on in Kumasi at age 90.

The deceased was the elder brother of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and ex-Defence Minister, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor.

He was also the grandfather of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South.
