The office of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party has strongly dismissed claims that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was briefed six months before the ex-GITMO detainees were transferred to Ghana.
The claims were made by international relations expert Irbard Ibrahim who stated that the three-time presidential candidate of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition was privy to the information prior to the coming of the GITMO two.
“I can say for a fact that Nana Akufo-Addo was duly informed six clear months before the GITMO detainees touched down,” Irbard said on Monday.
But spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo, Mustapha hamid has rubbished the claims in an interview with Citi FM, describing the claims as fabrication.
“It’s a blatant lie, it’s a fabrication, it’s a falsehood, it’s a rule calculated to claw back some legitimacy for a decision that clearly is unpopular in the eyes of Ghanaians.”
Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby are being offered humanitarian assistance in Ghana, having spent 14 years in the dreaded Guantanamo Bay penitentiary.
