Kenyans go to the polls

Kenyans are voting in the country’s sixth election since the re-introduction of multi-party politics in 1992.

Here are some key facts as voters go to the polls today:

* People are voting in six elections from the president down to county assembly member

* There are eight presidential candidates with incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga considered to be the front-runners

* To win the presidential election in the first round, a candidate needs 50% plus one of all the votes cast

* Overall, there are more than 14,000 candidates running across the six elections

* Over 45% of the registered voters are under 35

An estimated 180,000 police officers will be on duty across the country to help keep the peace
