John Mahama will win 2020 elections despite Akufo-Addo’s hurdles’ – Edem Agbana

“People in Accra can keep listening to the rented media [deceiving the people] but this election is about the youth and the youth are willing to win for the NDC,” Agbana added.

The comment from the youth activist comes after the Supreme Court in a landmark case between the NDC and the Electoral Commission (EC) ruled Thursday that the existing voter ID card and birth certificates cannot be used as proof of identity to register in the upcoming voter registration exercise.

The NDC and a private citizen, Mark Takyi-Banson, had prayed the Apex Court to stop the EC from compiling entirely new electoral roll.

A new Constitutional Instrument renders null and void the existing voters’ ID card and birth certificate as an identification requirement for Ghanaians to access the new voter’s ID card. Only persons with ID cards issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA) and those with passports or two guarantors who have gone through the registration process are those who can have the new voters’ ID card.

However, per the Supreme Court’s ruling, the EC can go ahead with the registration exercise, beginning from June 30,2020.

Reacting to the ruling, Edem Agbana said though it was obvious there would be government-sponsored obstacles to frighten party members, they need to fight for the victory that awaits them.

“I want to tell all NDC members that we are going for a battle to meet a dictator like Akufo-Addo. We should know that it is not going to be easy but you have to remain resolute,” reiterated Agbana who said he was convinced the youth would vote on issues.

He said the Akufo-Addo government, which has failed woefully to achieve the lofty promises offered Ghanaians prior to the 2016 elections.

“The youth are going to vote on issues about jobs, education, and the safety. These are what will win us the elections,” he added as he criticised the ruling NPP government for failing to provide real jobs for the people.
