John Mahama ordered $9m armoured cars eight days to end of term

It has emerged that the erstwhile administration of former President John Mahama ordered the supply 43 armoured vehicles worth more than $9 million dollars barely eight days to the handing over of power to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The cars have been specially designed to fire rounds of ammunition and are designed to withstand the effects of a hand grenade.

According to reports by Accra-based Joy FM, former Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Salifu Osman is reported to have signed and approved for the use of the vehicle by the President, Vice-President, First Lady and others.

All four sides of the passenger compartment and the roof of the vehicle are protected using high-quality armour steel and glass defeating a NATO ball ammunition, the supplier Shell Speciality Vehicles described the vehicle.

A letter addressed to Mr. O.K Tweneboah-Kodua, Executive Director of Amalgamated Security Services Ltd, a local company, National Security granted the company approval to ‘import and clear’ the vehicles.

The letter dated December 30, 2016 contained an expectation that the vehicles are to arrive within 40 days.
