John Mahama NDC’s best candidate for 2020 election – Kweku Baako

The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kweku Baako, has said in a broadcast discussion that former president John Mahama is a better candidate than all those aspiring to lead the National Democratic into the 2020 elections.

President Mahama, who lost his second term bid as incumbent president to Mr Nana Akufo-Addo, is rumoured to be considering a comeback. Constitutionally, he has one more term to serve.

“Honestly, if I look at all the names coming up, I still don’t see any of them more competitive. Spio Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh and my own friend from Dadekotopon, who says he is prepared to only defer to Joshua Alabi… none of them is as competitive as John Mahama in my candid opinion,” he told Samson Lardy Anyenini, host of Newsfile on Joy FM.
Asked if Joshua Alabi isn’t a strong candidate to lead the NDC, he said: “it would be unfair for me to comment …but if you force me, none of them is as competitive as John Mahama in my candid opinion.”

About 17 people are said to be interested in leading the party for the 2020 elections. Among the 17, the only person who has made his intentions know is Nii Amasah Namoale, former MP for Dadekpotopon.

Others rumoured candidates include Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, former Minister of Trade, Silvester Mensah, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Dr Kwesi Botchewy, the head of the National Development Planning Commission and Goosie Tanoh, a leading PNDC figure with strong ties to the party’s founder, Jerry John Rawlings.
