The Editor-in-Chief of a popular newspaper in Sierra Leone, Abubakar Sheriff, has described former President Mahama as helpful, thoughtful, decisive, and hard working.
Speaking on Onua FM and via his newpaper, the editor heaped praises on the former Ghanaian leader describing him as a fantastic person who has an amazing talent when it comes to leadership and negotiations.
Mr Abubakar was reacting to questions posed to him by the host of Onua FM’s morning show in connection with an allegation levelled against Mr Mahama by Jarrah Kawusu-Konte who works at the office of the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and one of the campaign managers of the incumbent party’s Presidential candidate.
The Communication Manager on his Facebook wall accused Mr Mahama and the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Guy Warrington of conspiring with Julius Bio and his Sierra Leone People’s Party to manipulate election results.
Mr Abubakar Sheriff described the allegation by the Communication Manager as baseless, unfounded and dangerous.
According to the Editor-in-chief, what the Communication Manager posted on his Facebook wall contradicts the position of majority of Sierra Leoneans who appreciate the fantastic job done by the former Ghanaian leader, his team, and other Observer groups who observed the election.
He said, Africa needs more of “John Mahamas” to bring peace, development and stability to the continent.
He recounted the unique diplomatic and conflict resolution skills the former President displayed when he resolved a disturbing confrontation between the main opposition party and the police at the end of the first elections.
Dr Ernest Bio, one of the incumbent party’s election strategists, described Jarrah Kawusu-Konte’s post on his Facebook wall as unfortunate and unnecessary. He said, the commonwealth election observers are given a mandate to observe and consider factors affecting the credibility of the electoral process as a whole.
Dr Ernest Bio, said, in circumstances where any of the parties does not accept the result or have issues with the tallying process, sometimes the Chair of a Commonwealth Observer may be asked to exercise a good office role by the Commonwealth Secretary General, to help ensure a peaceful transition….”that was exactly what Mr Mahama did and we must be grateful to the man who has always been there for the people of Sierra Leone,” he stated.
