John Mahama consoles family of lynched soldier at Denkyira-Obuasi

News of the death of a Ghanaian soldier, Captain Maxwell Mahama has shocked the entire country.

Former President John Mahama has consoled the family of the late army Captain Maxwell Mahama who was lynched and killed at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper Denkyira West district in the Central region.

An alarm was raised by the residents, who had witnessed an armed robbery incident the night before and so were on alert for the armed men.

Other reports say the assemblyman of the area organised some youth in the town to beat him to death.

The former President in a series of tweet said “My heart goes out to my brother, Capt. Chubby Adam Mahama (Rtd.) on the murder of his son, Capt. Maxwell Mahama. And my condolences to the wife of Capt. Maxwell Mahama, his young children & to his mother on the loss of her only son.”

Meanwhile, scores of armed military personnel have been deployed to Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region as they mount a search for the residents who lynched the Captain.

Spokesperson for the Ghana Armed Forces, Col. Aggrey Quarshie said “a high-powered fact-finding team led by the Chief of Army Staff is proceeding to the scene of the incident to ascertain the facts of the case.”
