Jean Mensa took EC job on condition to rig election for NPP – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the opposition NDC Mr. Sammy Gyamfi has alleged that Madam Jean Mensa was given her job as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) on condition that she would rig the 2020 elections in favour of the NPP.

“Rigging the election was part of the agreement the NPP went with Jean Mensa before she was given the position,” he alleged in an interview with Kumasi based radio Nhyira FM .

According to him, though there is no available documented evidence to that effect, the posturing of the EC Chairperson gives credence to his suspicion.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi and his party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on several occasions have criticized the EC over its decision to compile a new voters’ register.

The decision by the Electoral Commission has been met with heavy opposition from the NDC and other smaller political parties. Some civil society organisations have also criticized the move by the commission.

However, the commission has insisted there is the need to compile a new voter register because the existing system and register cannot be used for the upcoming elections.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi described Madam Jean Mensa as a “dictator” who is seeking to disenfranchise Ghanaians in the coming 2020 elections.

He said “The system in which the EC is using in administering its duty is undemocratic, it is autocratic because all what they have planned towards the 2020 is to rig in favour of the NPP and Akufo Addo but we have also told them that is over our dead bodies. It can never happen”.
