It’ll be dangerous to keep quiet over NPP’s grave mistakes – Adams to Prof. Martey

The National Organizer of the largest opposition NDC, Kofi Adams has taken a swipe at the ex-Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Martey, insisting that as a responsible opposition front, it cannot overlook the dangerous mistakes being committed by government irrespective of the few months it has occupied the seat of government.

He said he’s scandalized by the u-turn of the ex-moderator after he criticized the NPP government recently on what he calls the grave mistakes being committed by such a young government.

“We heard him saying recently that the government is too young to be making such grave mistakes, which clearly suggests that the government has started making dangerous mistakes which we as opposition should be able to correct now until it gets out of control.” he told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Tuesday.

Former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Martey, has described critics of President Nana Akufo-Addo as “unwise” people.

According to him, some of these critics lack the moral right to criticize when they failed abysmally while in office for eight years.

Speaking to Journalists in the Eastern Region during the inauguration of a C4C Homeopathic Clinic on Monday, the ex-Moderator stated that it will be better if the critics of the Akufo-Addo government supports the president to succeed during his term in office.

“All those who are making those unwise statements that Akufo-Addo has failed…I hear some of them; they have been there [for] eight years and they have not been able to do anything and they are querying those who just came. “I’m calling upon those unwise people to stop querying. They should wait and pray that this present government delivers,” Prof. Martey advised.

He noted that the criticisms against the Akufo Addo led-government is unjustified as it is yet to even spend half-a-year in office.

But in a reaction to the views of Prof. Martey, Adams said the Man of God is undoubtedly playing politics in his opinions as a leader.

“It is very difficult to respond to such men of God because we need to honour men of God, but they should also guard against such utterances. If he is saying that some government appointees are corrupt, at what level must we[opposition] come in and talk about the problems festering under the NPP government?

“If the largest opposition party cannot criticize the government when it goes wrong, then who do you expect to keep government on track or play that watchdog role? It is unfortunate for him to suggest that it’s way too early to be criticizing the government. We are sorry he should come again!

“He must play a neutral role in society, but he is being biased in Ghanaian politics. He is a father of all political parties. He should know that he has some stock of NDC, NPP party members in his church and he is shepherding all of them, so he should be careful of what he puts out there as a leader.”
