If you are not ‘Coward’ show up at Privileges C’ttee Sitting- Suhuyini dares Ken Agyapong

Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Hon Alhassan Suhuyini has dared loud mouth lawmaker for Assin Central, Hon Kennedy Agyapong to willingly show up for questioning at the Privileges Committee of parliament over contempt charges if he is not a ‘coward’ haven failed to submit himself at the Thursday, August 5, 2021, scheduled meeting.

The Privilege Committee Chaired by First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, was to sit on the contempt charges against Agyepong on Thursday, August 5, 2021, but Agyepong failed to show up.

But, the committee met only to realise that Mr. Agyapong was nowhere to be found, and a piece of rather unofficial information reaching the house revealed that the latter is out of the jurisdiction at the blindside of the committee, a total disrespect to the laid down rules in contempt matters.

This forced the committee to adjourn sitting without a fixed date.

However, Hon Suhuyini, the Petitioner told members of the Parliamentary Press Corps, Ken Agyepong is simply a ‘coward’ since his failure to boldly show up at the hearing, to defend himself against the contempt charges.

“I dared Mr. Agyapong to submit himself at the committee for questioning if he is not a coward,” the Tamale North lawmaker said.

Mr. Suhuyini who is a member of the Appointment Committee of Parliament noted that it is in the “interest of the committee to do a good job because the public is monitoring proceedings”.

In his view, Mr. Agyepong owed it a duty to honour parliament rather than private matters, pointing out that he (Agyepobg) is elected to parliament by the people of Assin Central to work in parliament and not be traveling out for private businesses, especially under the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

“I have interpreted it to mean he only shows bravery in his comfort zone in Madina but in fact, he is a coward because if I were in his shoes and heard the chairman talk about a sitting today, I would have approached the committee to find out if there is an invitation available for me so that I will plan my schedules appropriately and if he didn’t do that then I take it that he deliberately avoided the committee and that’s why they haven’t been able to find him to sever him and I think that’s an act of cowardice,” the young Legislator noted

Mr. Suhuyini said he is ever ready to give evidence at the Privilege Committee hearing to prove his case that, Ken Agyepong has committed contempt as a lawmaker by threatening a Journalist to wit physical harm if he ( Agyepong) was the President of Ghana.

Kennedy Agyapong was referred to the Privileges Committee for threatening to beat Joy FM’s Erastuslifere Donkor based testimonies he gave at Justice George Kingsley Koomson-led Committee tasked by Interior Minister to probe the unfortunate Ejura sporadic shootings by the military.

The Interior and Defence Committee Chairman, Ken Agyapong was referred to the committee when Hon Suhuyini drew the house’s attention to the outburst against the life of a Journalist.

Parliament is rising for recess on Friday, August 6, 2021, for a long break till mid-October, 2021.
