IEA Debate on New Voters Register Is Just A “Waste Of Time” – Kofi Adams

The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has maintained that – the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) sponsored debate on New Voters Register was unnecessary.

According to him, the NDC pulled out of the IEA debate because it disagreed with the approach even though they recognize the institution as a credible organization.

The IEA held a debate on Tuesday 20th October for or against the compilation of a new voters register ahead of the 2016 general election.

The opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] which is championing the course for a new register claiming over 76,000 foreign nationals are registered on Ghana’s voters register which makes the electoral roll not credible joined other parties at the debate.

However, the ruling NDC which is against the compilation of a new register indicated it would not partake in the debate emphasizing that the IEA is “attempting to usurp, or compete with the EC over the Voters Register issue; which is unacceptable.”

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’, Kofi Adams sustained that the NDC has no regret for boycotting the event – “But we will consider their next programme provided it’s not on voters register.”

He however told host Kwasi Aboagye that – “The IEA debate is just a waste of time. NDC is not interested in that.”
