Heavy police presence in Akropong as two chiefs are installed

Police have besieged Akropong in the Eastern Region following the installation of two separate chiefs to fill one vacant stool.

Odehyie Kwasi Akuffo and Nana Kese, both from the Sakyeabea Royal Family, were installed as chiefs by Queen Mother Okuapemhemaa Nana Nketia Obobi and Baamuhene Nana Afari Bampoe, respectively.

Even though there is calm in the area, the police have gone to the town to avert any possible clashes between the two factions.
The Okuapemanhene stool has been vacant for two years after the death of the late Oseadeyo Addo Dankwah III.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem North, Dennis Agyapong in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, said residents of the area are safe.
“There has been no casualty, there has been no quarrel, there has been no fight. Everything has been peaceful as it should be. From the outset, we have assured the people that their safety and security is paramount, so, we just put in place measures to ensure that their property and lives are protected,” he said.
