GOVT INDUCT 12,129 NEWLY QUALIFIED NURSES

A total of 12,129 newly qualified nurses, midwives and nursing assistants from various nursing training institutions in the southern belt were yesterday inducted into service.

The inductees were student who excelled in their licenced examinations at their training institutions in the Western, Central, Eastern, Volta and the Greater Accra regions.

The inductees, made up of qualified midwives, community, general and mental health nurses as well as clinical and preventive nursing assistants were inducted into service by Mrs. May Osae Addae, chairperson of the 13th governing board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The Minister of Health, Mr. Alexander Segbefia, speaking at the induction ceremony, reiterated government’s preparedness to upgrade all accredited nursing and midwifery training institutions into degree awarding institutions.

He said the University of Ghana Medical Center edifice which was in its final stage was expected to provide many jobs for the young health professionals when completed.
