Minister-designate for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has announced that his work as the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come to an end.

He told the Appointment Committees that he took up that appointment purposely for the 2024 general section.

He further stated that he had made his decision to end his assignment known to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC.

Dr Omane Boamah said these while assuring that he would be impartial in his service to the nation if approved by the House and sworn into office.

He made the assurance that when asked whether he would resign from his position as Director of Elections and IT of the NDC so that you can be impartial.

In answering this question, Dr Omane Boamah told the committee that his work as the director of IT and Elections for the NDC has come to an end.

“No Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality. In fact, I can be the chairperson of the EC and I will be impartial, that is my nature.

“Trust me, whether I was going to be appointed or not I took up the job of director of elections of the NDC purposely for the 2024 general elections.

“Immediately after the elections, I told them my job was done. Amongst us, we even discussed and we know who we will be proposing to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC to take over from me, thank you,” he said.

In other matters, Dr Omane Boamah advised Ghanaians to avoid seeking enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) if they do not meet the requisite qualifications.

He made this appeal while appearing before the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, January 28.
Dr Omane Boamah, drawing on his experience as a medical professional and his understanding of GAF operations, warned that bypassing proper recruitment procedures could have severe consequences.

“Knowing the Ghana Armed Forces that I know and from where I sat about 17 years ago, if you succumb to the procedures and rules of engagement and get enlisted, you are likely to suffer. Some recruits even die at training,” he remarked.

He highlighted the rigorous nature of GAF training, which is tailored for individuals who meet the established qualifications.

He explained that these standards are in place to ensure the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of recruits and to maintain the Armed Forces’ high operational standards.

Dr Omane Boamah reiterated his commitment to ensuring that only qualified individuals join the GAF, emphasising that he would always counsel unqualified applicants to reconsider their decisions.

“I will be the first to advise such a person not to do so,” he affirmed, underscoring the importance of adhering to the established recruitment processes.
