It is clear that Ghanaians have lost hope and confidence in the Finance Minister Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta as there was jubilation at the various markets in Accra when the news broke that the Majority Caucus in Parliament have called on President Akuffo-Addo to remove the Finance Minister.
According to the market women, the cousin of the President who is the Finance Minister is not fit and is sleeping on the job; hence, the need for President Akufo Addo to sack him and bring in a competent person to replace him. They stated that a new person would adopt fresh ideas to the work in the interest of the people adding that Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta’s bad and abysmal performance is the fact the President is his cousin; thus, he is untouchable. The market women also call on the majority in Parliament to start an impeachment process against the President should he fail to relieve his cousin from his duties for the interest of Ghanaians and not the NPP. “The MPs have relatives who are equally affected by the worse performance of the Finance Minister and are suffering like us so they should work in the interest of the masses and do the right thing” they noted.
The Majority Caucus in Parliament this morning demanded the dismissal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta over the economic turbulence. They also want Charles Kofi Adu Boahen, Minister of State in charge at the Finance Ministry removed. Members of Parliament of the ruling government also indicated that the Finance Minister and Adu Boahen are not fit to remain in office.
Addressing a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, October 25, a lawmaker for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah Kubi stressed that the vast majority of MPs are unhappy with the current state of the economy where the citizenry is subjected to unprecedented hardships. “We are unhappy with the developments in the country, we consulted our constituents who also expressed the same sentiments. “We want the President to remove Ken Ofori and Chares Adu Boahen,” he told the press.
Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi continued, “We are by this medium communicating our strong desire that the President changes the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State in the Finance Ministry without further delay. They have threatened to boycott all government businesses should the President fail to heed their demand. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has once again rejected calls for the dismissal of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta saying such a move will amount to a betrayal of trust.
