Ghana Society of Physically Disabled Congratulates Ivor Greenstreet

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) congratulates Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet on his victory as the flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP).

In a statement signed by the National PRO, Mr. Clifford Owusu Ansah, the CPP must be applauded for having confidence in Mr. Greenstreets irrespective of his disability.

“We wish to congratulate the CPP for having confidence in Ivor Greenstreet and voted him (Mr. Greenstreet) as their flag bearer” Mr. Clifford Owusu Ansah said.

“CPP did not look at the physical disability of him but rather looked at his abilities and what he, Ivor Greenstreet has done and what he can do for the country.” Mr. Owusu Ansah added.

Mr. Owusu Ansah sees the move by the CPP as very courageous and great motivation to personals with disability in Ghana.

“We are hopeful that his election as the flagbearer off the party will motivate other disabled persons to be courageous and avail themselves for such societal obligations”

In an interview with Awake Africa’s Korsi Senyo, Mr. Owusu Ansah made reference to the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 Act 715 Clause 1 and congratulated the CPP for respecting that act.

“A person with disability shall not be deprived of the right to live with that person’s family or the right to participate in social, political, economic, creative or recreational activities.” – Persons with Disability Act, 2006 Act 715 Clause 1.

Mr. Owusu Ansah use the opportunity to call on the government to speed up efforts to implement the Person with Disability Act especially making all places of public interest (schools, hospitals, offices, roads) disability friendly. He urges government and corporate Ghana to give equal opportunity to persons with disability in the areas of employment, education and participation in major national decision making processes in the country.

“It is my hope that Mr. Greenstreet becomes the President of Ghana so he being one of us can help implement all aspect of the disability act”

He was however quick to add that the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled is a non-partisans and not-for-profit organization and will not be able to make any contribution into Mr. Greenstreet’s campaign but can only wish him well in this bold step.

“Other colleague with disability must take Mr. Greenstreets victory as inspiration and shun begging on the streets” he advised

Mr. Ivor Greenstreet pulled 1, 288 votes, representing 64.2% of valid votes cast, to emerge the winner of the Saturday’s CPP congress making him the first physically disabled person to vie for the president of Ghana.
