Ghana needs an anti-mob action legislation– Omane Boamah

Former Minister of Communications Dr Edward Omane Boamah has called for a law to be enacted by parliament in dealing with mob action in the country.

This, he believes, will reduce drastically if not end incidents of mob action in the country.

His comments follow the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama by irate youth of Denkyira Obuasi on suspicion that he was an armed robber, after a snail seller informed the assemblyman of the area that the soldier was an armed robber, having seen the sidearm of the now deceased officer as he took money from his pocket to pay for snails he had bought from her.

There were other cases of lynching experienced in some parts of the country soon after Major Mahama’s incident.

In his tribute to the late Major, Dr Omane Boahma tweeted on Friday June 9: “RIP Major Mahama…Ghana needs an anti-mob action legislation.”

On his part, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and former Deputy Minister of Education, said: “Fare thee well gallant soldier. May this be a defining moment for our nation to shun mob culture. Your transition must not be in vain.”
