GFA owes 2006 WC standby players $50,000

Former Black Meteors captain Yussif Alhassan Chibsah has revealed the Ghana FA never paid a total sum of $50,000 to five standby players who were in Germany for the 2006 World Cup.

The five players were sent to Germany upon FIFA’s request for the Mundial during Ghana’s maiden appearance.

The standby players were Philemon McCarthy (Fetteh Feyenoord), Aziz Ansah (Asante Kotoko), Yussif Chibsah (Asante Kotoko), Baffour Gyan (Dynamo Moscow, Russia) and Baba Adamu (Krylia Sovetov, Russia).

They are due $10,000 each – an allocation FIFA paid to the Ghana FA.

The players persistently requested for their money, but were promised to be sorted out when the Ghana FA received $6 million some nine years ago from the campaign.

“Myself, Aziz Ansah, Baffour Gyan, Philemon McCarthy and Baba Adamu, we have been chasing the money since but nobody seems to be telling us anything,” Chibsah told Starr Sports.

The Black Stars were beaten by three goals to nil by Brazil in the knockout stages of the competition in 2006.
