Gabby: NPP HQs invasion ‘diversionary’

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has described the police takeover of the party’s head office on Monday as a misleading tactic to divert attention from a bad weekend for President John Mahama.

Police officers in Accra took over the headquarters of the biggest opposition party after the place was ransacked by party supporters suspected to be loyal to suspended Chairman Paul Afoko.

The police, according to ClassFMonline.com sources, besieged the headquarters around 3am following an invasion by the Afoko loyalists.

Mr Otchere Darko took to Twitter to describe the whole incident as “unrepentant diversionism”.

The founder of policy Think-tank Danquah Institute said in the tweet: “The age of unrepentant diversionism. National Security raids opposition HQ at 1am to divert attention from a bad weekend for the President?”

Class News’ Parker Wilson reported that 11 men, who posed as military men, invaded the NPP’s office at dawn and caused mayhem. Wilson said the suspects have been arrested by the police.

The NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya West, Mr George Andah, was at the scene to intervene.

Second National Vice-Chairman Sammy Crabbe, who was also at the scene, was prevented from entering the party’s office by the police, according to Wilson. He also reported that after a few skirmishes with the police, Mr Crabbe was nearly lynched by the Invisible Forces had it not been for the intervention of the police who whisked him away.
