Inaugurating the caretaker chairmen, Ugwuanyi directed that they must live within their respective local government areas.

The governor stressed that he would not tolerate a situation where they administer their councils from Enugu metropolis, or any other part of the country.

“The era of running local government areas from hotels is over in Enugu State,” Ugwuanyi said.

He informed the caretaker chairmen that the people of the state are expecting results from them.

In the same vein, Ugwuanyi thanked the immediate past chairmen and councillors for the services they rendered during their stay in office, and wished them well in their future endeavours.

Caretaker councillors are to be sworn-in by the appointed chairmen on Monday, January 11, at the respective local government secretariats in the state, Ugwuanyi disclosed.

The governor retained three former elected local government bosses as caretaker chairmen.

They are Prince Cornelius Nnaji, Enugu East; Afam Okereke, Nkanu West; and Cornel Onwubuya, Uzo-Uwani.

Speaking on behalf of the caretaker chairmen, Professor Rose Onah, chairperson of Nsukka Local Government Area, thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve the state.

Onah said they are all grateful to Ugwuanyi.

“The chairmen and the deputies are very grateful to you for finding us worthy to occupy this seat of responsibility and to contribute our own quota to your administration towards the growth and development of Enugu State,” she said.

She promised that they would not betray the governor.

But Onah, who expressed concern at the decline in the state’s allocations from the federation account, also urged the governor to bailout the local councils.

Onah added that newly appointed caretaker chairmen are ready to deliver.
